Pupil Premium Grant

Pupil Premium Strategy Statement

Pupil Premium is allocated to publicly funded schools in the UK to help improve the attainment of disadvantaged pupils. A school receives this funding if it has pupils who meet certain criteria.

  • Eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) now or at any point in the last 6 years.
  • Looked-after children (in the care of the local authority).
  • Previously looked-after children, including those who have been adopted.
  • Children of service personnel (receive a smaller “Service Premium”).

Purpose of Pupil Premium Funding

  • To narrow the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers.
  • Schools must spend the money to support eligible pupils—this could be through tutoring, pastoral support, enrichment activities, or targeted interventions.
  • Schools are held accountable via Ofsted inspections and are expected to publish a Pupil Premium strategy statement showing how the funds are used and the impact.
