School Council

At Vermont School, we believe that every child’s voice matters. Our School Council plays a vital role in helping to shape the life of our school by providing pupils with a platform to express their views, share ideas, and contribute to positive change.

The School Council is made up of representatives from each class who are elected by their peers. These pupils meet regularly with staff members to discuss topics that are important to them and their classmates. This might include ways to improve the school environment, support mental health and wellbeing, plan school events, or raise awareness of key issues affecting our community.

As an SEMH primary school, we recognise the importance of nurturing confidence, communication skills, and a sense of belonging. Our School Council encourages children to:

  • Develop leadership skills;
  • Learn about democracy and teamwork;
  • Take responsibility and make decisions;
  • Advocate for themselves and others;
  • Celebrate what makes our school a kind, inclusive, and respectful place.

Our School Council also leads on a range of projects throughout the year, including fundraising for chosen charities, improving playtime experiences, and promoting pupil wellbeing.

By empowering our pupils through the School Council, we help them to realise their potential—not just as learners, but as thoughtful, active members of our school community.
