Assesment
Assessment at Vermont School
At Vermont School, assessment is used to understand each pupil as an individual and celebrate the progress they make academically, socially and emotionally.
As a specialist school for pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, we recognise that progress can take many forms. We therefore use a range of assessment tools to capture and celebrate both academic achievement and personal development.
Assessment helps us to:
- Understand pupils' starting points and individual strengths.
- Identify next steps for learning and development.
- Monitor progress towards EHCP outcomes and individual targets.
- Inform teaching, support and intervention strategies.
- Share progress with families and professionals.
We use B Squared assessment frameworks, teacher assessment, Evidence for Learning and EHCP outcomes to build a complete picture of each pupil's progress. Assessment information is reviewed regularly throughout the year and supports our ongoing work to ensure every child receives the right support, at the right time.
We measure progress across a range of areas, including:
- Academic achievement across the curriculum.
- Progress towards EHCP outcomes and personalised targets.
- Social, emotional and mental health development.
- Communication, independence and life skills.
- Personal development and readiness for the next stage of education.
At Vermont, we believe assessment should be meaningful, personalised and focused on helping every pupil achieve success in their own unique journey.
