Out and about in the community

As part of National Storytelling Week, Turtle Class went out and about in our local community to visit Southampton City Library. For many of us, this was our first ever visit to a library and we absolutely loved it! When we were there, we explored the different sections of the children’s library; understanding the difference between fiction and non-fiction, finding familiar characters and books we may have already seen before. We enjoyed listening to our adults read stories to us there as well as read some by ourselves. Miss Nancy signed up for a library card so we were able to bring books back to school with us! We developed our listening and attention skills to learn how to use the scanning machine when one of the librarians showed us what to do.

It was also great to be able to apply the road safety knowledge we had learnt in a real life context in order to cross over to where the main entrance of the library was.

We cannot wait to go back to the library to return our books and take out new ones to share back in school.

Rhinos had great fun at the indoor soft play area, where the children developed their physical skills, coordination and teamwork. They supported one another, showed excellent turn-taking and demonstrated positive behaviour throughout the visit. Most importantly, they had lots of smiles and laughter along the way!

We are incredibly proud of how our children represent Vermont School when they are out in the community. They consistently demonstrate respect, kindness and excellent manners, and they are a true credit to our school.
