Digital Learning
At Vermont School, we believe technology should support learning, communication and wellbeing in a safe, balanced and developmentally appropriate way.
As a primary SEMH setting, we recognise the importance of:
- strong relationships
- communication and interaction
- practical and sensory learning
- outdoor experiences
- emotional regulation and wellbeing
For this reason, technology is used purposefully rather than continuously throughout the school day.
Pupils are supported to develop safe and appropriate digital skills through carefully planned learning experiences, adult support and online safety education. Online safety and responsible technology use are explored through daily practice and the Jigsaw PSHE programme.
However, we also place significant value on:
- play-based learning
- movement and sensory opportunities
- face-to-face interaction
- practical experiences
- relational approaches to learning
We recognise that many children already experience significant screen exposure outside of school. Our approach therefore aims to provide a healthy balance and ensure that technology enhances learning without replacing the human relationships and experiences that are central to effective SEMH education.
