Thrive
What is Thrive?
Thrive sessions give children the chance to explore feelings, build confidence, and connect positively with others through activities like games, stories, art, and teamwork. Children learn to manage their emotions, express themselves, and celebrate their strengths, while also practising kindness, cooperation, and problem-solving. These skills not only support their wellbeing and friendships in school but also prepare them for future learning and life beyond the classroom.
Why do we teach Thrive?
We teach Thrive in primary school because children’s wellbeing and confidence are the foundations for lifelong learning and success. Through Thrive, pupils develop the skills to manage emotions, build positive relationships, and approach challenges with resilience. These experiences give them the cultural capital to understand themselves and others, preparing them to thrive in the wider world. Rooted in our school values—Belong, Believe, Achieve—Thrive helps every child feel safe and included, believe in their own strengths, and achieve their potential. In every session, children are given opportunities to express themselves, celebrate success, and take steps towards becoming confident, compassionate, and ambitious individuals, ready for life beyond school.
How we teach Thrive.
At Vermont School, Thrive is taught through engaging activities that place children’s wellbeing, confidence, and relationships at the centre of learning. Sessions use stories, games, role play, art, and teamwork to help children feel safe, build trust, and develop skills they can use both in school and in life beyond. Through Thrive, pupils develop self-regulation, empathy, problem-solving, and cooperation, while lessons remain practical, reflective, and inclusive. Enrichment, storytelling, and collaborative projects deepen their understanding of themselves and others, building resilience and cultural capital. In line with our values of Belong, Believe, Achieve, Thrive enables every child to belong in a safe and supportive community, believe in their strengths, and achieve by expressing themselves, connecting with others, and growing in confidence for the future.
