Our topic during Autumn 1 was Explorers and Adventurers. We used 'The Explorer' by Katherine Rundell to learn from the eyes of 4 young children what it is like to explore unknown territory. We learned how to use a compass, how to build successful rafts and dens for survival and even tasted bugs! Through science, we investigated living things from a range of habitats. In music we recreated the sounds of jungle animals and studied the botanist Margaret Mee in art to sketch in her style.
Our topic in Autumn 2 focuses on Young Entrepreneurs. We are reading 'The Smile Shop' book by Satoshi Kitamura and using this as a stimuli for narrative writing. So far we have walked in the footsteps of the young boy and used a range of scales to measure the mass of carrots, make healthy fruit kebabs and introduced a 'class lottery'.
