Welcome to our school

Our Vision:

The Vermont Family Belong, Believe and Achieve Together.

Vermont is a small special school in Southampton for children aged 5-11 who experience social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. All of our young children experience challenging behaviour and may also have many associated conditions and disabilities such as ADHD, Autistic Spectrum disorders and attachment disorders. Every child has an Education, Health and Care Plan.

We pride ourselves on our 'Vermont Family'. Children and adults alike are supported by all members of the school community.

We promote a child-centred approach to enable our children to become independent learners and we foster a sense of enthusiasm for learning through a range of real life experiences and practical, hands-on activities. We support social and emotional well being through frequent social skills activities and we also provide ELSA support to develop our children's resilience and coping strategies. We actively try to teach new behaviour skills to enable our children to cope with a range of situations and to teach them life skills for the future.

We currently have six classes, each catering for 10 children with  five highly skilled adults (a teacher and four teaching assistants). They set excellent role models and expectations for behaviour and work closely with parents and outside agencies to ensure they understand the daily needs and experiences of each our children, enabling them to make adjustments accordingly.
